Comparison Between Nurse Population & Survey Respondents
June 2019

A total of 17,714 nurses participated in the 2019 Survey of Michigan Nurses, which is significantly higher than the 4,137 nurses who completed the 2018 survey. The higher response rate for the 2019 survey may be attributed to the link to the survey being sent twice during the survey administration period, the amount of early communication to licensed nurses about the change in process that occurred in 2019, and it was the second year that the link was no longer embedded in the licensure renewal process. The response rate for the 15,896 RNs who responded to the survey was 10.2% (compared to 4.9% in 2018), while the response rate for the 1,818 responding LPNs was 8.1% (compared to 3.6% in 2018).

Results from this analysis showed some differences in the distribution of nurses who completed the survey compared to the overall nurse population. A set of weighting variables was created to increase the degree to which the survey results are representative of the overall nurse population.
